I am happy to report that I was finally able to release another development release less than one month after 1.3.91 . So here it is: another development release of Gwenview: 1.3.92.

Most fixes from this version are bugs reported on bugs.kde.org.

I must confess I neglected Bugzilla for a while, but I am trying to get through the current list of bugs now, marking already-fixed bugs as closed, fixing others when possible... If you made a bug report some (hopefully not too long) time ago, you might hear from me... just don't hold your breath though, the list is quite big!

Speaking of such a big list of bugs, I would be interested in hearing about the way other developers deal with Bugzilla. Do you visit it often, use some bookmarked queries? do you prefer working with the mails it sends? or do you work in another way I haven't heard about?

A few days ago I was looking at Gwenview NEWS file. That's when I noticed how much time has passed since I last released a new version. Seems like becoming a father has a bad effect on my "free time productivity" (still I enjoy it, don't worry!).

Anyway, I decided to get a new development version out, version 1.3.91. This version contains quite a lot of changes:

-Gwenview can now play videos and display SVG files.
-It's now possible to create symbolic links from the main menu and from the image contextual menu. (Patch by Steffen Schoenwiese)
-Zoom has been improved: you can now zoom to to width or height, and a zoom combobox has been added to the application and KPart toolbars.
-Read support for X cursors has been added.
-The slideshow now starts directly. Slideshow options like timing or fullscreen can be set from the configuration dialog. (Patch by Martin Filser)
-The slideshow now waits for the next image to be fully prefetched before advancing.
-The main toolbar is much lighter now that the image specific buttons have been moved to an image view toolbar.
-The file view from the folder KPart now features the same toolbar as in the application.
-The file view toolbar can now show a filter bar to filter images by name and/or date.
-The folder view has been reworked (this may not be definitive).

A few weeks ago a Gwenview user asked if it would be possible to implement file name filtering. I initially answered that while the idea was nice, I didn't have time to work on it.

Of course, one should never trust me when I answer mails too quickly. A few days later, it turned out I needed such a feature. So I decided to implement it.

It started as a simple lineedit to filter filenames:

But this was not handy for me: I needed to filter images by file date. So I ended up implementing it as a toolbar button. When clicked it reveals a few fields to filter by name and/or by date, like this:
